  1. Hello, I noticed that MB7UR is not digipeating much traffic and when looking at aprs.fi I realised that it has still got the old Trace configuration set in its UIDIGI firmware. Since 2008 all APRS users are encouraged to use the WIDEn-n paradigm, and the UIDIGI firmware supports this with a change of a few parameters. More information can be found here: http://www.apritch.myby.co.uk/uiview_newn-n.htm
I would be good if MB7UR could be updated as from its location it looks like it would provide a valuable service to APRS users traveling along the M4. If you would like any help updating the configuration I would be more than happy to help. 73 Chris M(M)1PTT

  2. Hi Chris, sorry for the very long wait to reply.
Following a site visit recently, it would appear there is something not quite right. We have decided to replace the unit with a Raspberry Pi running DireWolf, it is currently on my bench being configured & we not to commission it in the next few weeks. When running it can be found as G0UWS-7.

  3. Hi Andy,

Have to say Raspberry Pi and Direwolf are excellent. I use them for my aprs digi MB7UCR.

You probably should look into getting an NOV for MB7UR as its not listed as having one....

    1. Hi Pete.
Yes it’s a very good application, lots you can do with it but I am keeping it simple for now, had a few interface issues to overcome which is now resolved (hope). I noticed your unit is running DireWolf hence I looked into it.
The new unit is running at home as G0UWS-7 for now to ensure it runs correctly. Thanks for a reminder regarding the NOV, Andy G0BEQ is looking into this.

  4. Hi Andy,
Glad to hear it is getting fixed and I look forward to hearing it on air when the Pi is in its final position. The DireWolf soundcard modem should be a big improvement over the Tiny2. The current UIDIGI config seemed strange as it was beaconing with a WIDE4-4 path but wouldn't act upon any WIDEn-n paths, only trace and relay. I assume in the config UITRACE wasn't set to WIDE. 73 Chris M1PTT

    1. Hi Chris.

Many thanks, work has somewhat got in the way of things recently, but its running on the bench at the moment after a few little issues. We hope once the NOV renewal is completed to get it operational.

      Regards

  5. Hi.

Just to keep you all in the loop. The NOV for MB7UR has now been issued. Subject to any issues, I am planning to replace MB7UR this Saturday with the new equipment.

    Any feedback would be welcome.

  6. Hi.

Since the initial replacement at the end of July a few issues became clear so MB7UR was removed from site. Today 31st August at midday MB7UR was returned to site and made operational again

Any issues please let me know by emailing g0uws@rrg.org.uk
